Disneyland Paris Marvel Hotel: Review and Know-Before-You-Go Tips

Heading to Disneyland Paris and wondering where to stay? Disney’s Marvel hotel just might be a good choice for your superhero family.

As huge Disney fans, Disneyland Paris was something we were so excited to see. And staying in the reimagined Disney Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel was at the top of our list. What could be better than Thor and the Avengers in hotel form after all?

For us, it hit the mark in many ways. The subtle nods to the theme were fun to find. The location is great. And the decor is modern and sleek.

Yet, while we really liked the hotel, I’m not sure we would necessarily stay there again. For the price, it lacked a bit of “oomph” . The theming, while fun to detect, can also be easy to miss.

Here’s all the details on our stay so you can determine if this Disneyland Paris hotel is the best lodging option for your Disneyland Paris trip.

Disney Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel review

The exterior of the hotel is designed to look like NYC skyscrapers.

Theming and Style

As the name suggests, this is Disney’s homage to all the Marvel super heroes. So, you, like me, might initially think it features kid-themed decor. But, double check your spidey senses, because the hotel actually has an art deco design.

While it does showcase Marvel, it does so in a way that appeals to a wide range of ages.

Think less pint-sized character statues and more classic comic book-style, Marvel artwork.

The New York City art gallery theme contributes to the upscale feel. You’ll find a skyscraper facade exterior, Grand Central Station-esque signage, and interior elements that mirror high-end Manhattan office buildings.

Like resorts at other Disney properties, we found it to be really well done. It’s contemporary and sleek. Perhaps that’s why at first glance it also felt slightly understated from what we’ve experienced at Disney World Resort in Florida or Disneyland in California. Yet, after exploring the resort more, we found lots of “hidden Mickeys” (or in this case, hidden superhero and NYC references) for which Disney is famous.

Disneyland Paris

The hotel is a 10-minute walk to the entrance of Disneyland Paris.

Location

Disneyland Paris is situated just a little over a half an hour’s drive, depending on traffic, or an hour and fifteen minute train ride, from downtown Paris. Charles de Galle airport is between 10 minutes (via the fast train) and 40 minutes away (via taxi or private transfer,)

Disney’s Marvel and New York themed hotel is located on Disneyland Paris property. It’s about a 10-minute walk through Disney Village, where shops and restaurants are located, to both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park.

The Marne-la-Vallee-Chessy train station is a 7-minute walk. But, if you’re not feeling Hulk-like enough to make the walk with luggage, never fear. A free shuttle is available to the train station, as well as to the parks.

Suites

One of the best things about the suites in this hotel is that they come with access to a club level lounge. Like guests in club level rooms in Disney World, you’ll be able to enjoy breakfast as well as snacks and drinks throughout the day. So, if you plan super long park days, club level may not be worth it. But, if your itinerary is a little more relaxed, it helps justify the price increase just a bit.

Suites at this hotel also include spa tubs and separate living and bedroom areas for a little more privacy.

  • Superheroes Suite - With room for 4 in 1 double bed and a sofa bed, this suite has Marvel artwork you won’t see anywhere else in the hotel

Stats and Amenities

The building that now houses Disney’s Marvel hotel was originally built in 1992 to house Disney Hotel New York. It closed in 2019 for what became a two year renovation and rebranding to add the Marvel theme.

The current property is a 4-star hotel that features 561 rooms and suites, spread across eight floors. It’s a full service property with dining options, bars, and other recreation.

Where to eat and drink New York City style:

Two sit-down restaurants:

  • Downtown Restaurant - An all-you-can-eat buffet serving eclectic cuisine, much like you'll find on most New York City streets

  • Manhattan Restaurant - An Italian restaurant where food is served under a grand chandelier (the chandelier of Asgard, of course)

Two lounges:

  • Skyline Bar - This was our family’s choice for some light bites, cocktails, and mocktails for our first night. And it did not disappoint with gorgeous views of NYC, complete with some superheroes guarding the city.

  • Bleecker Street Lounge - This was another one of our go-to’s, especially for coffee in the morning. In the evenings, it’s a brick-exposed, cozy spot for wine, beer, and soft drinks.

Where to get active, like Captain Marvel:

  • Heated outdoor pool - Open seasonally

  • Indoor pool -Themed after a New York City metro, with a small kids pool, and hot tub

  • Sauna, steam room, and changing facilities - Located near the indoor pool

  • Fitness center - Open 24 hours a day

  • Hero training center - Features outdoor fitness and play equipment, as well as a basketball court

Other amenities to appease everyone in your super hero family:

  • Super hero station - Spot for you and your little heroes to get a photo with your favorite Marvel characters or in specially designed Marvel-inspired spaces

  • Marvel design studio - A dedicated space for the whole family to learn how to draw their very own comic book inspired art

  • New York boutique - The perfect place to find a Marvel souvenir to take home

  • Concierge services

  • Babysitting (at a surcharge)

  • Laundry facilities (at a surcharge)

10 Of The Best Ways To Make Disney World A Learning Adventure

New York City streets and superheroes are the theme for the back of the hotel.

FAQs

  1. What are some favorite things about the hotel?

From check-in to check-out, staff at the hotel are Disney-friendly and helpful.

The hotel feels upscale and modern.

The proximity to the parks is fantastic and a game changer if you’re adding Disneyland Paris at the beginning of a trip when you’re already fighting jet lag.

And of course, the Marvel theme is fun for any fan of the brand.

2. What are some negatives about the hotel?

The same theming that we enjoyed is easy to miss if you don’t know to look for it. The subway inspired signage for example? If I hadn’t read about it prior to our stay I would have never picked up on the reference.

The hotel can feel a little stark and missing that “immersed in a movie” feeling if you’re used to some other Disney properties. This is especially true in the standard rooms. They have a few Marvel art pieces, but other theming is subtle.

Because of this, it may seem overpriced if you're coming during peak times or your family, like ours, requires a bigger room.

3. Where else would we suggest staying at Disneyland Paris?

While we are fans of this hotel, there are a few options we think may have been a better fit for our family.

Disneyland Hotel would be at the top of our list of places to stay. Although it can be significantly pricier than the already expensive Hotel New York, it just might be worth the splurge. It’s the park’s flagship hotel with a truly grand feel and vibe.

Sequoia Lodge is another option to check out. It’s highly recommended by one of our favorite Disney bloggers. (You can check out Disney Tourist Blog’s review of Sequoia Lodge HERE.) It’s a cheaper option than Hotel New York that still has good theming and is just a few minutes farther away to the parks.

4. Is the Disney Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel expensive?

At Disneyland Paris, park tickets are more often included with lodging so it’s a little tougher to compare apples to apples. And let’s face it, Disney isn’t known to be the most affordable vacation.

Prices fluctuate due to time of year, but overall Disney Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel ranks as the second most expensive hotel out of the 8 hotels owned by Disneyland Paris.

It’s significantly less expensive than the resort’s grand dame, Disneyland Hotel. But, it's usually more expensive than Les Villages Nature Paris, Disney Newport Bay Club, Disney Hotel Cheyenne, and Disney Sequoia Lodge. And it can be quite a bit pricier than Disney Sante Fe and Disney Davy Crockett Ranch.

Generally, hotels go up in price the closer they are to the parks and the more amenities they have.  This hotel is the second closest to the parks and has a fair number of deluxe amenities.

5. Should I worry about a language barrier while staying at the hotel?

Many hotel staff speak English. Other guests seemed to be from diverse places, although we certainly met more Americans here than other places in France. So the staff seem very used to answering questions from American tourists.

6. Does Disney Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel offer free parking?

Yes, the hotel does offer free parking.

7. Do I need reservations for dining at the hotel?

Both Downtown Restaurant and Manhattan Restaurant are very popular, so you will likely need a reservation to dine there. Reservations can be made up to 2 months in advance. Neither Skyline Lounge nor Bleecker Street Lounge accepts reservations, although we didn’t encounter a wait during our stay,
