Families Helping Families

I view my role as a mom to be the most rewarding ... and challenging ... thing I’ve ever done.  I was blessed with great parenting role models and have an amazing support system. Yet, I’m still sometimes overwhelmed with the challenges of parenting.

That’s why the charities I’ve chosen to support are ones that help families who need extra support or kids who haven’t been blessed with a forever family. CASA of the Eastern Panhandle serves families in my local community. One More Child works throughout the United States and overseas. And Romania Reborn helps children in Romania. They all strive to strengthen families in their own unique way, making the world in which we travel a little better.

One More Child’s goal is to support children and families across the globe by helping them in tangible ways. In addition to providing family support services in programs like the one I volunteered for in Guatemala, they also work in over a dozen other countries, including the United States.

Their programs are designed to address childhood hunger, human trafficking, basic medical needs, support for single moms, educational support and other global issues through a Christ-centered approach.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia uses volunteers appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children. The goal is to make sure children don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system.

Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed is in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.

Romania Reborn helps neglected and abandoned children in Romania find forever homes. They work diligently with those in country to come up with permanency plans as well as emergency care in a way that honors the child, the family, and the community at large.

All children remain in country with forever families. Additionally, they work to advocate for long-term change in orphan care throughout Romania.
